Collis: Albion renewed my love of football
FOOTBALL
BOSS Jim Collis admits that his reign at high-flying Tadcaster Albion has renewed his infectious enthusiasm for football.
The Park chief revealed that he was considering "packing it all in" before Albion offered him the chance to replace previous manager Wayne Day.
And after a stuni)ing start to their NCE first division campaign_ Collis says he is delighted with the way his team are progressing.
A comprehensive 4-0 win over Sutton Town last week kept Albion firmly in the title hunt - and Collis is now looking forward to another tough game when Carlton visit The Park tomorrow.
"We beat Carlton at their place after they'd gone 26 games unbeaten at home," he said.
"And after last week's win the lads are extremely confident. There'd be something wrong if they weren't. I went down to training on Tuesday night, when it was freezing cold and the pitch was frosty, and all available players were there.
"That goes to show how committed they are and how much Tadcaster Albion means to them.
"So everything seems to be coming together now. I've sorted my squad out and got them playing how I want. I'm very happy with how things are going.
"If I'm honest, even if we'd have lost a few more games I'd still be pretty pleased.
"I've always said that I want to produce a strong footballing team for Tadcaster. Things haven't been right here for a long time and my aim is to change that, and I think I’m close to achieving that now”.
Collis also underlined the importance of the club's reserve team, saying the The Park second-string were a vital cog in the overall Albion engine.
He pointed to a host of exciting young prospects who are benefiting from the opportunity of getting regular games, despite not yet being ready for first team football.
Meantime, Collis' charges swept away the challenge of Sutton last week to exact revenge for a 3-1 reverse at the hands of the same team a week earlier.
The result puts Albion within six points of table-topping Garforth Town with three games in hand.
But Collis remained in cautious mood as he prepares tackle Carlton at The Park tomorrow.
"I'm not getting carried away because we've already had a little blip where things didn't go our way for a while," he said.
"And that could easily happen again. So we can't afford to be complacent.
"Carlton will give us a good, hard game. They're a physical side who'll be difficult to break down. But we're going well at the moment and I'll definitely be going into the game looking to win it."
