Under-strength Albion show spirit in defeat
TADCASTER Albion Ladies endured a miserable weekend, going down 6-1 to Morley.
Tad were underdogs from the off, only able to field ten players.
However, after sustaining early Morley pressure, Tad countered and Genna Kent raced onto a throughball only to be upended by the advancing keeper.
The referee had no option but to award the penalty.
Tad's Hayley Paterson stepped up and confidently converted in off the crossbar for 1-0.
Morley were stunned by Tad's battling spirit and consequently upped the tempo to their credit, replying with a goal mouth scramble and a subsequent second.
Ruth Collis pulled off a string of first class saves and the defensive duo of Julie Smith and Katie Matthews made some excellent last ditch tackles to deny Morley a more flattering scoreline, going in 3-1 at half-time after converting just 2 before the break.
After receiving harsh words from their manager, Morley needed to produce the same fighting spirit shown by the home side with Jo Menzer signalling their intentions of further frustration by working tirelessly upfront not allowing the away side to play.
Caroline Wherritt produced a captain's performance, frustrating Morley's main threats in midfield, along with Annie Halka creating chances and working well with Deb Skinner who never gave up. Helen Harris used her strength and determination to frustrate Morley's dangerous wingers.
The extra man was an obvious advantage and Morley converted two more efforts in quick succession while breathing a sigh of relief.
In the dying minutes Morley hammered a final nail into the coffin, making it 6-1 and a result that far from reflected the performance.
