FOOTBALL Collis gets quick chance for revenge By Lee Sabot ON THE eve of tomorrow's top of-the-table clash at The Park, Tadcaster Albion boss Jim Collis has admitted he is "not happy" with his side's league position just nine points off top.

Under Collis, Tad' have been a revelation this season - flirting with the big boys at the top of their division for the first time in years.

But on Saturday, Albion suffered a 3-1 reverse at NCE Division One league leaders Sutton Town - Tad's first defeat in four.

Tomorrow, Albion have an immediate chance of inflicting revenge as title favourites Sutton are again the visitors (3pm).

But rather than be content with an excellent perch in third place, Collis is keen to close the gap at the top.

"Everybody is happy at Tadcaster - they're having success after years of failure," he said

"But I am not happy in myself. Anybody who knows me knows what I want for this club. The people I have told think I must be mad. But all I will say is judge me in February - let's see where we are then."

Collis is not happy that his side must play the league leaders twice within eight days and has branded the fixture list "a farce."

But after bouncing back to beat visiting Eccleshill United 1-0 in the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday night, Collis is quietly confident - with a few tricks up his sleeve - of surprising Sutton tomorrow. "It is a farce that we have to play them again - I don't agree with it and don't know why they do it," he said.

"If we lose to them again there is going to be one hell of a gap and I would rather play them when we're on a good run of form - say in about 11 games time.

"Sutton looked a good side on Saturday but 1 thought we should have had them and they were at home."

Striker Steve Ward gave Tad' a half time lead on Saturday but Sutton came back in the second half to win 3-1, albeit with the help of two penalties and a refused cast-iron penalty for Tad'.

But Tad' bounced back in style on Wednesday when, switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3, an Andy Battersby strike ten minutes from time sealed a fme 1-0 win over Eccleshill - a division higher than Tad'.

Collis hopes Gregg Anderson (groin strain) and Steve Ward (dead leg) will be fit for tomorrow's game.

TADCASTER manager Jim Collis certainly won't be trying to sign 'Socrates, even though the former Brazilian World Cup captain has now returned home after a short.lived loan spell at Garforth Town.

"I don't want to criticise Garforth but they've let themselves down," he said. "He should never have been asked to play, he was unfit and 1 would not lower myself to that.
"It was just a publicity stunt to put a few bob on the gate - it was a joke.

"It created a lot of interest and a cracking atmosphere but they should have got him as their guest of honour and got him to do some ball skills and shirt signings at half time.

"He shouldn't have played - and the only players who will play for Tadcaster Albion while I'm manager are players who warrant the spot - whether they are 15 or 50."
