New boys looking forward to delights of a derby day DERBY day fever is gripping the district as TADCASTER MAGNET SPORTS prepare to host near-neighbours WETHERBY ATHLETIC.

The two sides clash at Queens Park tomorrow and both sets of managers are eagerly anticipating the crunch tie.

Each boss has their own reasons to want the local bragging rights Taddy are eager to halt a recent-mini slump, while Wetherby will be keen to further ease their nagging relegation fears.

Athletic boss Benn Gallagher and Magnets assistant Des English are good friends off the pitch - but the pair insist any pleasantries will go out of the window. once the game kicks off.

"I've known Benn for a while now and I know he'll be as desperate for the win as we are," English said.

"He's got Wetherby playing well and they're starting to turn things around.” “So it's going to be a tough game, but it could be just what we need.

"Everyone loves derby games and hopefully we can get a win to boost our confidence.” "I enjoy these types of games and I'm sure the players are up for it as well.” “The lads should be self-motivated and Mark Eastwood and I will just have to fine tune things.”

"Local games are great occasions and I'm hoping tomorrow's match will kick-start our season.” “Things haven't been dropping for us recently and a little bit of inconsistency has started to creep in.” "So it's important we get a result which could just give us that boost we need.” "But whatever happens I'm sure Benn and I will meet up after the game for a beer. Who knows, I might even persuade him to put his hand in his pocket and get a round in!"

Magnets fell to a 2-0 reverse away at lowly Ossett Common Rovers last week, but with dismal conditions reducing the pitch to little more than a mud-bath, English remains upbeat ahead of tomorrow’s game. Wetherby News 18.-2.05
