Residents are able to book collections during the first two weeks and vehicles will be collected during the second and third week. Proof of ownership and identity will be needed in order to complete a declaration of ownership form.
Throughout the project Selby District Council will also be removing any abandoned vehicles that are found and is encouraging residents to report any they may come across by contacting Environmental Health on 01757 292044 or 01757 292225
Chair of Selby District Council's Environment Board, Chris Metcalfe, said: "The amnesty offers an excellent opportunity for residents to dispose of their unwanted vehicles safely and legally, free of charge.
"The problem of abandoned vehicles is an issue across the whole country including here in the Selby district.” "Not only does it cost tax payers thousands of pounds a year to sort out, but abandoned cars can also be extremely dangerous. Therefore it is important that Selby District Council takes steps to tackle the problem, alongside our partners."
Chair of Selby District Community Safety Partnership, Martin Connor, added: "Dealing with abandoned vehicles can take up valuable time and resources of North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Selby District Council.”
"This amnesty offers people the chance to dispose of unwanted vehicles free of charge and I am confident it will go some way to alleviating the issue of abandoned vehicles in the Selby area."
